Attention Deficit Disorder, in itself, is not a learning disability. The term learning disability typically refers to a perceptual disability, such as an auditory or visual processing disorder, like autism or dyslexia. A person with ADD, however, has no problems perceiving or interpreting information. Therefore, it does not qualify as a learning disability.
Although it is often jumbled in with the mass of disabilities, ADD actually does not hinder the process of learning. A child with ADD can intake information, process it accordingly, and preserve it in memory, just like any other person. The problem comes with getting them to pay attention long enough to hear the information in the first place!
A child with Attention Deficit Disorder may have difficulties in school and with learning in general, but it is not due to a learning disability. Often, when a child is treated for ADD, their academic performance improves by leaps and bounds. On the other hand, an individual with ADD may not have any difficulty in learning at all; this will vary by person.
However, while ADD is not a learning disability, it is often accompanied by one or many. Some children, particularly at the preschool age, may have difficulty interpreting sounds or words and may also have speech issues. Older children may have problems spelling and reading, writing, and arithmetic disorders may arise. Likewise, dyslexia, a reading disorder, is common in children with ADD. However, none of these disabilities is inherent to Attention Deficit Disorder. While some children may have them, many will not.
Whereas ADD may cause difficulty in learning, steps may be taken to help the child perform well in spite of the disorder. Most ADD children do better with a schedule the exact same thing, day in and day out. Because they may have problems with memory retention and are easily distracted, this helps them stay on track, because they are acting out of habit.
The same goes for organization; a set way to do things and places to put things makes it easier to remember and stay on course. On the same token, teaching the child to utilize organizational binders and planners also helps them stay organized and keep up with important assignments.
During class time, it helps if an interactive approach is taken as opposed to a lecturing style this keeps the childs attention better and decreases the likelihood of distractions.
The most important thing is to not make ADD a crutch for the child; they can grow and be successful, even with this disorder.

Aromasin-Exemestane is a steroidal suicide aromatase inhibitor that depresses estrogen fabrication within the human body by deflecting the aromatase enzyme, which is responsible for estrogen synthesization. Initially, Aromasin-Exemestane was originated to fight breast cancer in post-menopausal women those who want a particularly belligerent medical aid, and for whom first line defensive measure such as SERMS (Tamoxifen) have not worked in an effectual manner. Aromasin-Exemestane is pretty substantial, or at least more accented than other chemical compounds used to fight breast cancer.

Many health professionals are encouraging smokers to quit smoking because of the harm that it may bring to their health. Smoking continues to be one of the major causes of illness and death around the world. Medical studies show that smoking-related ailments may kill close to 50 percent of all smokers and impair the health of countless individuals. The average expectancy of long-term smokers may be reduced to eight to 12 years compared to non-smokers. One of the major causes of death among smokers is lung cancer. In the United States, lung cancer ranks second after heart disease for males, and third after heart and cardiovascular disease for females.

About 60% of all aid is in the form of loans, and increasing.
Saving: For example, if you start saving when your child is 5 years old, you will have 13 years to save before your child enrolls in college. If you can put aside $167 per month – that’s $2,000 per year – you will have saved $26,000 by the time your child begins college.
With a 6% return over the thirteen-year period, your $26,000 will have grown into $40,000. That $40,000 will be available to help you pay for your child’s college expenses like tuition and room and board.
Borrowing:If you choose not to save when your child is young, it is likely that your child will have to borrow to help pay for college. For comparative purposes, let’s assume you borrow $40,000 in increments of $10,000 per year for 4 years. Assuming a 6.8% interest rate and a 10 year repayment period, borrowing $40,000 will ultimately cost your child $55,200.
Difference: The difference between borrowing and saving is nearly $30,000 ($55,200 ─ $26,000 = $29,200). Thus, saving beats borrowing hands down.
3. The tax system gives incentives to college savers.
Both state and federal laws allow families to earn tax-free interest on college savings. The following example illustrates the advantage of earning interest tax free:
Assume when your child is born you invest a one-time, lump sum of $18,000 in a state 529 plan (see Points 4 – 6 below to learn more about 529 plans). By the time your child is ready to enroll in college at the age of 18, you will have access to $63,000 in order to help pay for your child’s college expenses.
If the same $18,000 were invested in a taxable vehicle with the same rate of return as the 529 plan, after subtracting the federal and state taxes that would be due each year, you would have access to only $43,000 to help pay for college.
The difference, which is essentially a government subsidy to promote college savings, is $20,000, all else being equal. Furthermore, some states actually allow deductions for contributions, making the 529 plan even more attractive to college savers.
4. 529 plans are the most popular and convenient way to save.
There is approximately $100 billion currently invested in state 529 plans.
5. Not all 529 plans are alike.
Each state has its own 529 plan. Investment options and fees may vary from state to state, so it pays to shop around. A couple of useful sites for comparing the different state plans are savingforcollege.com and Morningstar.com.
Most state plans have websites that include free electronic college saving calculators to help you decide how much to save in order to meet your saving goals.
6. The money saved in a 529 plan is not forfeited if the beneficiary does not go to college or gets a full scholarship.
Money saved in a 529 plan may be used to pay the college expenses of other family members, including siblings, parents, cousins and stepchildren. The money can even skip a generation and be used for a grandchild in the unlikely event that became necessary.
7. There is no right amount to save. It depends on your financial situation.
8. Do not save for college at the expense of maintaining your normal lifestyle or your retirement.
You don’t want to short change the amount you set aside for retirement. If you run out of money, there is no such thing as a retirement loan. On the other hand, it is relatively easy to get a college loan.
9. Two ways to save are:
o Save what you can afford after taking care of family expenses.
As was stated in Point 5 above, most state 529 plan websites have free electronic college saving calculators. Other websites, like finaid.org, have them as well. By using these calculators you can periodically check to see how well your savings are keeping pace with college costs.
o Set a target figure. A number to shoot for is the tuition fee at the major public university in your state. For a more ambitious goal, you might use the out-of-state tuition charge. This higher figure would also allow you to accumulate enough savings to pay for a good part of the tuition cost at a private college.
Most college saving calculators found on state websites automatically include information on the current and projected (in-state and out-of-state) tuition rates for the state’s main universities.
10. If you save in a 529 plan and later apply for aid, you may be subject to a very light “penalty” in terms of how much the amount you have saved will increase your expected family contribution.
If the child’s parents are the owners of the 529 plan, they may be asked to contribute some of that money under the rules of the need formula. (There is no such “penalty” if the plan is owned by the child’s grandparents. See Point 12 below for more on grandparents.) Let’s look at the example in order to better understand.
If you, the parent, manage to have $100,000 saved in a 529 plan by the time your child is ready to start college, the first $50,000 will not be considered at all when calculating your child’s aid award. (This is one of the ways the system rewards you for saving.) Only 5% of the second $50,000, or $2,500, will be assumed to be available to pay for college. In other words, the amount of your need will decrease by that amount.
Thus, one could argue that by diligently saving $100,000, you are ultimately worse off by $2,500. However, if you consider that you are very likely to have earned around $35,000 in tax-free interest over the saving period, you will realize that by saving you are actually about $32,500 better off.
11. There are other ways to save besides 529 plans. To look into other options, it is best to consult with a financial advisor.
Remember to choose an advisor who in very familiar with all applicable aid rules. The need formula treats savings differently depending on whether the parent or the child is the owner.
12. Grandparents too can help through 529 plans.
Based on a recent poll, two-thirds of grandparents say they are interested in helping to pay for their grandchildren’s college education. It is worthwhile to know, that money saved in grandparent-owned 529 plans is not considered when calculating the grandchild’s aid award. Furthermore, grandparent-owned 529 plan savings are not counted as part of the grandparent’s estate for estate tax purposes.
College Financial Aid: Pre-High School Saving (transcript)
I’ve spent the last couple months videotaping myself giving advice on how to take the SAT, but I know that getting a good SAT score is not all that you need to do to get into a good college. There’s a lot you need to know about financial aid and admissions. While I’m not an expert in those fields I have some friends who are and I recently had the opportunity to sit down and talk to Don Betterton.
Don is the former financial aid director of Princeton University. He was there for 30 years in that position. I got to know Don back in the late 80s when he was one of the assistant soccer coaches and I was on the varsity soccer team. Don and I have known each other for a long time, he’s a great guy and I asked him what I could do today before my kids are even in high school to help make paying for college easier when my kids finally do get to college.
So I grabbed my video camera and sat down with Don and hopefully you’ll enjoy the conversation.
Karl: So Don I’m excited, I’m about to learn the twelve things I need to know about saving for college for my children. Your first bullet is called putting aside money for college is a good idea, the earlier the better. My question for you would be, who is it a good idea for: me or my children?
Don: Actually it’s a good idea for both. What I like to do is compare “Savings vs. Borrowing” because if you don’t save now the chances are your child is going to have to borrow later on. So I have an example here, depending on how old your children are.
Karl: I have a 9-year-old, a 7-year-old, and a 6-year-old.
Don: Okay. Well my example is based on a 5-year-old. So let’s start with that. Thirteen years until college, you start putting aside money when your son is 5-years-old. You put aside $2,000 per year over that thirteen year period; you’ve set aside $26,000 dollars. The interest accumulation over that period of time means you’ll have $46,000 ready to go to college when he’s 18 years old.
Let’s say you don’t do that, you don’t put aside any money at all. You still need $40,000, now you have to borrow that money. He takes out a student loan, graduates with $40,000 worth of debt. He has to repay that at a 6.8% interest rate over a 10 year period. Guess how much he’ll have to repay?
Karl: $55,200. (laughs)
Don: I think you’ve been looking at that sheet! Anyway, so that’s a good point. Once you’re set with the savings, you put aside $26,000 for the $40,000. Borrowing, he borrows the same $40,000 and he has to repay $55,000. There’s almost a $30,000 difference in this example between savings and borrowing.
Karl: Right and I agree with you. I think that if you do the numbers it works out to be $167 per month for me right now. I think that if you start putting away that amount of money, you just get used to it, you learn to live without it, and before you know it you have this nest egg that’s ready for the children and their college education. So just to recap, you’re point number two was saving beats borrowing hands down – I agree with you 100%.
Can you explain for me point number three which is, the tax system gives incentives to college savers. What does that mean?
Don: Yeah it sure does, there’s something called the 529 Plan, which the government has set up and that’s the provision of the Internal Revenue Service. It says you do not have to pay taxes on money put in this particular college savings plan. Not only do you not have to pay federal taxes, but you don’t have to pay state taxes.
So what it means is this money accumulates without any tax payments over this thirteen year period we talked about. It’s a substantial difference if you accumulate money paying taxes every year versus not paying taxes.
An example I like to use would be, if you set aside at age 0 when your child is born, $18,000. If you have to pay taxes on that over a period of 18 years, you’ll have accumulated $43,000. If you do it in a 529 plan with all the advantages inherited in that, you’ll actually accumulate $63,000. So it’s quite a difference in your pocket, your out of pocket expense, and in savings in any way that’s taxable versus the 529 plan which are non-taxable in the federal or the state level.
Karl: So really what it comes down to is there is a $20,000 difference in your example that would go to me and my child’s education versus…
Don: Right, it’s a government subsidy for saving for college basically.
Karl: Okay, so your point number 4 is 529 plans are the most popular and convenient way to save. What are 529 plans?
Don: 529 plans are these government sponsored savings plan, which are now by far the most popular way to save for college. I think there’s like a hundred billion dollars in these plans as of the current time. They simply are I think the most convenient, easy way to save for college.
Karl: Now you say government plans, are they federal or state plans for the most part?
Don: The federal government puts in the rules as far as these tax advantages we talked about, but actually the plans are set up within each state, they establish their own. So when they look at 529 plans, you normally start looking at your own state plan because of certain advantages as far as state tax deductions, there may be some scholarship benefits. There’s also a very good website called savingforcollege.com and I think it’s worthwhile before one invests in one’s own state plan to at least go on that website and check some of the provisions of other state plans to see whether your state is offering the best deal for you or whether you might do even better by going to another state.
Karl: Okay, you just answered your point 5 which is not all 529 plans alike you should shop around. And the website was collegesaving…
Don: Savingforcollege.com.
Karl: Sorry about that! Savingforcollege.com. Number 6, what if the beneficiary doesn’t go to college or gets a full scholarship? Now you know all of my children are going to get full rides, so this is a complete waste of time for me, but let’s just pretend they’re not as special as I think they are!
Don: Well if you can’t use any of your children, do you have any nephews or nieces? I guess is my question.
Karl: I do, I do. Both of my sisters have kids, so I have two nieces and three nephews.
Don: Okay well, the way they’ve set up the rules is you initially establish a beneficiary. If he or she does not go to college, has a scholarship, you can then move the money around to other beneficiaries, including your whole family: your cousins, your first cousins, or if you want to go back to school you can use it yourself. You can actually skip a generation and it could even go to your grandchildren, but we won’t get into that right now!
Karl: Well speaking of different generations my parents have at times expressed an interest in helping me save for my children’s education. Is it first of all typical for grandparents to want to get involved? And if they want to, can they get involved?
Don: Yes. I read a recent pole that says two thirds of grandparents would like to help their grandchildren with college to some extent. A 529 plan is an excellent option for grandparents. We haven’t talked about the effect of the financial aid formula on these savings yet, but there’s kind of a light tax on savings that would be held in the parents’ name. If the grandparents save the money for college, they’re not part of the financial aid system at all. So one doesn’t even have to worry about that.
The other advantage of grandparents is as they’re building up their estate and they move this money, none of it counts even though their the owner in their estate. So it’s actually a good estate planning technique as well. And farther down the line, they’ll help their grandchildren, which I’m sure they really would like to do.
Karl: Okay now we talked a little before about what is the right amount to save. Now you threw out some examples of $167 a month and I asked you a question: what if I can’t save that much, what should I do? The other variable is I don’t know how expensive school is going to be when they get to that age. Is there sort of a right amount to save or how do you go about figuring out what the right amount is?
Don: The easiest answer to that is simply save what you could afford after you take care, as we talked about before your current living expenses and your retirement protection. If one wants to set a target figure, I think a reasonable one is the out of state tuition for wherever your flag ship public institution is. In New Jersey they use rectors as an example; the out of state tuition for a student that comes from out of state and attends rectors is about $17,000 a year currently. If you take that and you inflate it over a period of time that ends up being thirteen years using the same 5-year-old example. $168,000 is what you’re facing way down the line. You’d have to put aside about $450 a month to meet a target like that over that period of time.
So, some families can’t afford it. If you could afford that, it’s a very good number to shoot for because then if your student stays in state that amount of money would probably pay for tuition, plus room, plus board and if they go to a private institution, it will probably pay a good part of the private institutions tuition. So it’s a reasonable target figure. It can be expensive but if that’s not possible, any amount you save is better than not saving at all.
Karl: Don, one last question on a topic that we didn’t really cover I don’t think in the last segment. Will I ultimately be penalized if I’m a good person that saves and does everything I’m supposed to when I get to that financial aid award when my kids get to school?
Don: Yeah that’s a really good question and I hear that quite a bit. Am I penalized for saving? Whether it’s in a 529 plan or any other form of savings the financial aid formula is really fairly light on how they treat savings. Let me give you an example:
If by the time your son gets to college, you have $100,000 in some form or another savings, investments, 529 plans, the financial aid formula first said you can reserve $50,000 that we won’t even look at. So now they only look at $50,000 of your $100,000. What’s called a tax rate on that, the amount that’s added to your contribution is 5%. So going through the math 5% of $50,000 is $2,500. So you’re contribution is now going to be $2,500 greater because you have $100,000, so I think that’s fairly a light treatment of the savings. As a matter of fact, if the $100,000 gained some interest during the years, chances are you can simply pace some interest off the top of it and never actually have to touch the principal at all. So whether it’s 529 plans or any other form of savings, it’s a good idea enough that the financial aid system treats it fairly lightly.
Karl: Awesome! Thanks Don I really appreciate your time and your knowledge and your willingness to share with me.
Don: Thank you.

If youve invested in all the bells and whistles of a complete home theater system; the widescreen high-definition television, surround sound speakers and the latest in DVD technology, the last thing you want to do is watch movies that dont give your system the workout it deserves. Here are some of the best DVD movies to give you the ultimate home theater experience.
Without questions, action and adventure films were made for the home theater screen as well as the big screen. There is nothing that gives a home theater owner a better experience than a film where the action is intricate, graphic, and frequent. Unfortunately, a lot of action films made today are seriously lacking when it comes to being worth the time to watch on home theater. There are a few gems, however.
At the top of the list is the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. The three movies blew audiences away in the theaters with their stunning graphics and uncompromising sound, and the experience is not lost on the special edition DVDs. Programmed with the gold standard in surround sound (Dolby) the shriek of the Nazgul will have you looking towards your ceiling in fear. No one can bring an epic adventure to the screen like Peter Jackson; and his King Kong is true to the original screenplay as well as the incredible scenery, special effects and sound quality of his Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Batman Begins is a must-have in the collection of the true home theater junkie. Presented in its original aspect ratio of 2.35:1, this enhanced-for-widescreen transfer is mighty impressive, to say the least. Colors were refined slightly subdued and somewhat cool looking no doubt due to use of various filters. Saturation levels are never an issue. Flesh tones also looked real and spot on. Black levels were as deep as imaginable allowing shadow detail to be shown off nicely and never becoming murky or ill-defined especially considering how dark some of the film can be. On top of the dark appearance, theres plenty of smoke and fog throughout the films entirety. Sky Captain, World of Tomorrow is another highly stylized visual treat with amazing sound throughout.
Another genre that is great on the home theater system is the computer animated movie. You dont want to make your little ones ears bleed every time they watch A Bugs Life, but the visual qualities of these films when viewed close up on the home theater screen is amazing in its detail and quality. A high water mark is the incredible underwater animation of Finding Nemo. Dazzling colors and realistic water tones will have you thinking you are on the Great Barrier Reef yourself.
A good rule of thumb when looking for a DVD addition that will be great for your home theater system is that if it wowed you in the theater, it will probably blow you away at home. DVD programmers are well aware that in todays market, quality of sound is just as important (and sometimes trumps) the quality of the actual film. Many films that would never be sold for personal collections ten years ago become best sellers, simply because of the technology invested in them.

When it comes to spending money on vacation you have three main choices. Credit cards, cash, or traveler’s checks.
Credit cards are the safest way to pay for your vacation. If they are stolen you have limited liability and they are easily replaced. The ability to dispute the charges with the credit card company give you protection against poor merchandise or service.
Many transactions such as hotel reservations and car rentals are impossible without a credit card. When traveling overseas you can usually get the best exchange rates using your plastic but beware. The credit card companies have been charging high fees for the privilege and usually don’t tell you ahead of time.
The downside to credit cards is they can be unreliable, especially overseas. You can be in for a real hassle if your card is declined by the merchant or a foreign ATM machine. The chances of this happening are real and increase dramatically when traveling to second and third world countries.
When you use your credit card, don’t let it out of your sight even if it means following your waiter to the register. Before you put the card back in your wallet make sure that it belongs to you.
Cash is the most reliable way to carry money but of course, it is the least safe. American cash is accepted everywhere and you can often haggle for better prices with cash.
But there are many dangers when carrying cash. The most obvious is that it makes you a target for thieves. Don’t flash it around.
Hide your cash on your person but not in a waist money belt. Find or make a pocket on the inside of your clothing where it is difficult to get at. Then keep a small amount in a spare wallet for your walking around cash. You can keep one credit card in with the cash and it doesn’t hurt to throw in some other expendable junk to make it look good. This is what you hand over if you are robbed.
Don’t keep all your cash on your person. Hide some in your personal belongings. Be inventive about finding good hiding places. The hotel safe is a good place to stash a portion. If you spread it around then you won’t be cleaned out in one shot.
Travelers checks are arguably the best way form of money for your vacation with. You can use them almost as readily as cash and they can be easily replaced.
The best way to handle your vacation money is with a combination of all three methods. )

When families pack up their belongings and venture to another city to start a new life, they almost always use a moving truck. Loading these moving trucks is not as easy as tossing your belongings into the back. In fact, there are ways to properly and efficiently load a moving truck. You have to follow certain safety guidelines which are very important when moving out since some loads may weight tons and if they are not properly secured, it may shift dangerously while the truck is moving. Plus there are some laws concerning moving trucks that need to be followed in order to avoid being fined.
To start with, you should become familiar with the weight and capacity of your moving truck and take note of the weight of the items that you will be transporting. Each moving truck has weight restrictions; you should stay within your trucks weight restrictions and never push it above the limit. And if something is wrong with truck, have it fixed properly and immediately to ensure safety not only of the things that are going to be transported but also for your own safety.
Loading and unloading equipment by driving it on and off a cab often times create apprehension; it is usually preferable to use a long, wide ramp when loading equipment and furniture on moving trucks. This also makes it easier for loaders in loading large furniture. The angle of the ramp is critical when loading, try positioning the ramp so that it is not too steep and in such a way to minimize the amount of pressure on the loaders.
It is also advised to put some supporters under the cabs edge or under the ramps to prevent up and down movement of the trailer especially when loading equipment or furniture. Incorrect positioning of the loads has a negative effect on how the truck drives and handles, especially on curves and turns. It is best to place the load in between the cab and the rear axle, placing the load behind the rear axle can produce poor handling of the moving truck. This also distributes some of the produced weight to the rear of the moving truck through out the journey, otherwise the cab will seem to have a mind of its own, and the cab will probably wobble or swerve.
Another important thing to remember before loading a moving truck is to have the tires checked. Tires are considered to be one of the most ignored areas of vehicle safety and should definitely be included during all of the safety inspections prior to loading. The tires are rated for a specific weight and yet most people are not aware of this. The best way for you to know about the tires weight rating is to look at the sidewall of the tire; and if you could not read it, then it is most probably time for you to change your vehicles tires. Heavy-duty tires which are sold by tire distributors and dealers are mostly available with many different weight carrying capabilities, you may also ask for assistance in determining the tires loading capacity.
Make sure to secure your loads firmly, pack the truck properly, and you will be sure to drive smoothly and safely even on rough roads.

Rving in Alaska is not a two week trip, plan for a much longer time because getting there and back is half the fun, enjoying the stops along the way. But if time is an issue then you have several options. Alaska is a large state with a lot to see,So if you are still working or have school age children you can plan a shorter trip and limit the area you cover. A driver-friendly option is a sea-and-land tour via the Inside Passage. You can load your RV on the BC ferries in Seattle, Washington or British Columbia, or you can fly to Alaska and rent an Rv. If you have the time there are many points of interest in the US and Canada on the way. A trip in itself is sightseeing in Glacier National Park, Calgary, Lake Louise, Baniff and the Edmonton Mall before you get to the Alcan Highway.

OThere is a prominent feeling that when a band decides to grow up and write more about real life, adult situations they have become a better band. A good case of this can be seen in the popular pop band blink-182. Often known for their childish themes in songs early in their career, this band focused most of their attention on swear words and being naked in various situations. As their CDs grew in number, however, they began to write about suicide and other various harder topics in their music. Many fans of the band felt they sold out at this same time, becoming too main stream and overlooking fans of their previous work. So this article will address whether making meaningful lyrics goes hand in hand with selling out.
The first thing that has to be addressed is that there are some bands which start out playing meaningful lyrics from their very first single. Because it would be incredibly hard to call someone whose never been anything but mainstream as selling out to the mainstream, we will ignore this group for now.
The truth of the matter is that bands cannot make the same songs over and over again. Why would people continuously spend money on buying new audio CDs and going to concerts if all they were going to hear is the same old thing? That may work for diehard fans, but not the casual ones who pack most of the stadiums and concerts. Bands have to change and adjust, like everyone else in life do, to keep their career promising in the future.
It also doesnt make sense when people accuse bands of selling out after they sign with big record companies and play on MTV. The truth is that every band is made to make the big bucks and to be famous. By refusing to go mainstream it would be hard for any band to do this.
That being said, making more sensitive and serious lyrics shouldnt go hand in hand with selling out. While blink-182 may have been happy all the time and felt good enough to not have to write anything but naked humor early, it is likely they witnessed more and more bad events occurring around them as they grew into their later ages. It is hard to keep all your emotions bottled up when you want to express feelings, so it is not a big deal that the band wanted to use harder events in their lyrics. I dont think that makes them sellouts, even though they are much more of a mainstream band than they used to be.
In the end, blink-182 broke apart and no longer play together anymore. Many fans still existed for the band and they are still looking for a reunion. While this may or may not ever happen, one thing is for sure. The blink-182 who used to have nothing to do but run naked down a street while passing hot girls is probably gone forever. But their lyrics will be something that will touch us all forever.

Oil paintings began in the Mediterranean during the era of the Greek and Roman civilizations. The Egyptians also used paint techniques that were rich in bees wax, pigments of such minerals as copper, iron and manganese oxides and tempera.
While historians have noted that the Mediterranean civilizations of this time were aware of flax, walnut, poppy seed and other vegetable oils there is not definite proof that they were used in oil paintings of the time.
The tempera these early oil painters used were organic mediums mixed as fluid with water and volatile oil additives. Italian artists of the next century used organic binding ingredients such as materials containing protein from whole eggs, animal glue or milk.
From the Roman Empire’s demise to the 15th century Renaissance era oil paintings and tempera painting became prevalent. In Greece and Italy olive oil was the preferred based for pigment mixture preparation although this made for a long drying period and great difficulty for human models. Theophilus, a German-born monk and oil painter in the 1100′s dispensed with olive oil in his oil paintings. In Japan a substitute for oil paintings was perilla oil, applied after a lead application as early as the 8th century. During the 1300′s the Italian Cennino Cennini created oil paintings that were a combination of tempera and several layers of light oil.
Much later Leonardo DaVinci, who lived until 1519, created his own oil paintings concoction made by adding up to 10 percent bees wax to his oils and then boiling the combination.
If you’d like to follow in the footsteps of these great painters there are some simple preparations and techniques before and during your creation of oil paintings.
The first important technique is to dress for it, including gloves. Your tools include two containers, one with paint thinner, and the other with a combination of two parts thinner to one part walnut oil. Make sure you’ve made room in easy reach for your paint brushes, your palette and its knife, your containers, paint tubes and paint rags.
Your palette should start out with only 2-3 paint colors. Generally you’ll need cadmium red, cadmium yellow and ultramarine blue to start.
Your palette knife is the oil paintings tool you use for the technique of mixing colors. Keep in mind that oil paints have a short blend life, so if you try to make a color change and it doesn’t work right the first time quickly take a paint rag and wipe it off the canvas and start over.
One of the advantages of oil paintings that make the correction technique so much easier is that they take nearly a full day to dry. So, you have lots of correction time. On the other hand, because oil paintings take so long to dry and excessively heavy coat can slow your painting process considerably.
The brushes you use in your oil paintings must be cleaned well between each change of color. This technique is crucial. The first thing you do is remove as much of the paint as you can with the paint rag and then place the brush in the paint thinner. Swish the paint brush around in the thinner, and then dry it with the rag.
You must wait 24 hours after your first complete oil paintings application before you start your second or the first application will smear.

In Part 1 I explained how a lack of knowledge about measles symptoms and resistance to MMR has resulted in some parents starting up measles parties to ensure that their children caught measles early and so gain immunity that way. This is mistaken in my view and many people are unaware that measles is still a major killer. In part II I will explain to parents what the measles symptoms are, in what order they should appear and when to call a doctor.
As a parent you should learn how to recognise measles symptoms. If your child has had the disease, or is immunized, you probably dont need to know this, but if not you could save a life by being aware of the most important measles symptoms and when to get medical help. Back in the 1950s and 60s they all knew measles symptoms when they saw the, but not now, so lets try to spot the them in the rough order in which they normally appear. Its not easy since many childhood infections have similar symptoms. However, they all have at least one which is particular to that disease.
Measles symptoms:
Measles frequently start with symptoms similar to those of a cold or the flu.
1. First a runny nose and a sniffle, followed by a sore throat.. A typical barking cough can then develop. So far, you would not think measles The eyes will puff up, may become watery and get red and sore looking. If you know of a possible measles contact you can now get suspicious.
2. A slight increase in temperature will develop, and will increase to around 39 Celsius (102F). The child may shy away from the light or close her eyes when a light is switched on. At this point you may want to call a doctor. If so, you will catch the disease early, but the symptoms are not yet definitely indicative of measles. Most parents will still regard these symptoms as a bit of a cold or a touch of the flu.
3. You may not notice this, but about 2 to 3 days after the first symptoms appear, your child will get small spots on the inside of the cheek, round about the molars, called Kopliks Spots. These look like small red bumps with tiny grains of sand or salt in the middle. These may last less than a day and sometimes even appear within the first 36 hours. If you are with it and aware, you will see this, and you should call your doctor at this stage. This the definitive measles symptom. No other infection shows Koplik’s spots. These spots disappear as the main rash appears. They are photographed on my website.
5. The temperature will probably have reduced a bit by now to 37 38C (just at or below 100F). You think perhaps she is getting better.
6. The main rash starts to appear about 1 or 2 days after the Kopliks spots. It forms small spots which join together to form blotches. Definitely doctor time! There is a picture of a measles rash on my website.
7. The rash appears on the forehead around the hairline first, then to the neck, body, arms and legs. By this time you will have called a doctor and your child is diagnosed with measles unless you have an inexperienced doctor, when samples may be taken to identify the virus.
8. The temperature increases again to over 40C or higher (105F). No need for samples now – if the Koplik’s spots were missed, this is definitely measles, but by now it is dying out.
9. The rash lasts about 4 days then starts to disappear from the head down. The whole process, from start of symptoms to disappearance of the rash, takes about 10 days on average. The rash itself last about 6 days.
A person with measles is infectious from 4 days before the rash appears to about 4 days after it has appeared, so it can be passed around before any measles symptoms show.
Those most at risk are:
Young children under one year old. Malnourished people. Children who have depressed immune systems, such as those on some cancer treatments or are infected with HIV or AIDS. Children suffering from a Vitamin A deficiency. Pregnant women: the infection can cause miscarriage or premature delivery.
It is said that a doctors surgery can be a dangerous place. Measles is extremely contagious, and around 90% of close proximity contacts will catch the disease. If any of the above high risk patients are present in the surgery waiting room when you take your child suspected of having measles, you may be placing them at special risk.
Doctors may not like this, but for this reason alone I suggest that you call a doctor rather than take a child suspected of having measles to the surgery. This is another argument against those who would rather have their child catch measles at a measles party than be given a vaccination to prevent them from contracting it.

Hey, Jack! That seminar I sent you to last week? Any chance you can give us all an overview at the team meeting?” Jack’s boss had just delivered his worst nightmare. Not only had the event been tedious and disjointed, he couldn’t find the paperwork to remind himself of the key points and his memory was not providing any brilliant clues.
You want your event to be memorable. You want it to flow effortlessly from beginning to end. You want every aspect of the event to be professional. This means you don’t just want the event to be managed; you want it to be designed with a degree of panache and flair.
Take some inspiration from the radio and television networks that make their living from presenting. Notice how they use words, music and images to identify a complete program; how programs are broken down into chunks and how one chunk is blended into the next using segues (pronounced segway).
A simple segue does the following:
* It acknowledges what has gone before
* It connects that presentation to the overall theme of the event
* It then connects both with the presentation to follow and in some cases introduces the speaker.
For example
“That was an opportunity for you to understand the theory of how our organization works with suppliers using the Provider Performance Feedback Process. Now it’s time to hear a real-life example from one of our suppliers who has been trialing this process for 6 months. Jane Smith is the Sales Director of Jones Cooper Inc and she has been asked to give her unbiased opinion about working with the Provider Performance Feedback Process”
Branding
No event is too small to have its own identity. Even a one hour seminar should have some sort of a personality to catch the imagination of the potential audience. An appropriate piece of graphics can be commissioned for a very reasonable fee and will tie in with the theme of the event. For example, Herbal Medicine would feature naturalistic plant imagery whereas Engineering might use cogs, electronic circuitry or industrial illustrations.
This piece of graphic art which might also incorporate the name of the event will, ideally, be used on all printed matter, presentation material, signage and promotional items.
You may have a talented amateur graphic artist in your company who can produce good work but be careful that their quality is appropriate and be honest with them if it does not meet the standard expected.
Professional graphic artists use computer programs that link to the systems used by printers, so they can guarantee that the finished product will look like the samples they present to you.
Branding, it seems, has deep psychological meaning. Apparently our brains deal with a brand image in a different way from most other information as it taps into our emotions. Emotional memory is more accessible; think about TV adverts. So, it makes sense to connect with your audience in as many ways as you can.
If Jack had been looking for the big fluorescent green folder with the bright red tree printed on the spine and if the contents reminded him of a coherent, connected list of stimulating topics on the subject of ‘Sustainability’, he might not be dreading the team meeting quite as much.

The fact that spring is here means a few things. Spring means that the coldness of winter has passed us by yet again. Spring means that the school year is winding down and that children will be free again soon. Spring also means that the wonderful season of summer is on it’s way soon. I love spring because it means that warm weather, the best kind of weather, is about to arrive.
Warm weather is full of potential. It is obvious to me that warm weather is the best kind of weather because it allows people to do so many things and to enjoy so many things. Perhaps my favorite thing about warm weather is that I can be outside comfortably for hours on end. I’m kind of an outdoors loving guy, so the cold winter months are really hard for me to get through each year. I love summer days when you can be outside from early morning until late evening and never feel a chill. The warm sun beating down on your face and your body is perhaps my favorite feeling in the world.
Warm weather is great because it allows people to easily be more active and enjoy a healthier lifestyle. In the winter all people want to do is cuddle up in front of a fire, read a good book and sip a hot drink. On warm days many people toss the books aside and enjoy hour after hour of activity. Kids love to run and play with their neighbors, adults love to garden and work outside of their homes. The potential for healthier living that warm weather brings is amazing. It makes me wish we had warm weather every day of the year.
So many of my personal favorite ways to spend time can only be done comfortable in warm weather. Camping, for example, is much better in warm weather. I love nothing more than to pack up my large backpack and take off for the woods for a few days with my sons. We love to fish and hike all day and then sit by a fire and talk at night. Many of my best memories with my sons have been made because of the benefits of warn summer weather. I have also enjoyed watching each of my children play baseball during the warm summer months. I love spending my evenings at the ball fields encouraging my children’s love for the game.
You see, there are endless reasons to love warm weather. I have shared some of mine with you. Now, as summer approaches, it is up to you to enjoy the warm weather in whatever ways you like the best.

Lets assume that you have a website and you are using it only for statically presenting your company, while running your offline business runs smoothly. Recently you read an article about Online Live Chat Support, and now you ask yourself: Why should I put extra effort into serving my online visitors?
The story goes like this:
If you were your customer, where would you search for information about some type of products, services or companies?
On the internet perhaps?
That is also the place where your customers probably search for information about your company and products.
If you are now asking: We already have a presentational website of our company, why should we put extra effort in serving our online visitors?
The question depends mostly on your current online presence (awareness of your website, number of visitors, rankings in search engines and similar) and your future plans for efforts in that field. But in fact, it all comes down to determining what kind of results you can expect from providing your website visitors with better website support.
Providing information about your company and products through website presence is the right effort, but why not use that touch-point to provide exceptional customer service, improve the perception of your company in customers minds and the company reputation?
Placing the chat button on your website will create a warm, friendly atmosphere where your customer will be greeted with a warm welcome line: Hello, how may I help you today?. Just like in your physical store!
Here are some of the direct benefits of using Online Live Chat Support:
You can provide any information your customers need about your company and products in real time(just like they have walked in your physical store);
You can personally lead them through the purchase process, asking them questions and customizing your offer to each of them;
You can initiate chat with any visitor anytime;
You can promote your special or seasonal offers to each of them;
You can have an instant view of how many visitors are currently browsing your website;
You can see how long they have stayed on each page;
You can see where the visitors are coming from (which country);
During this process, you also get many indirect benefits:
Most important thing is that you communicate with your customers;
You provide them with exceptional online customer service;
You can find out what your online customers are like and how to cater for them;
By answering their questions, you can find out what kind of information you can add to your website or your FAQ;
Interacting with your website visitors, you can set the ground for long-term relationships with them;
You can replace your phone support and save a lot of time and money answering customers questions by phone (online receptionists can talk to multiple clients at once)
The Internet has received many critics for not having the human dimension, which is most important when dealing with customers. It seems like things are moving around now and companies are moving in the direction of interacting with customers and getting their feedback in every possible way.
Using Online Live Chat Support, you can connect with your customers, get a feel of what they want and even ask them questions. Why not say Hello to your visitors?

Today, time-crunched families know the importance of convenience in meal preparation is no longer just a matter of preference, it’s a means of survival. But Americans aren’t willing to abandon the comfort of their favorite slow-cooked flavors in the interest of time.
The winners of the recently announced Consumer’s Choice Pork Awards provide striking examples of the marriage of convenience with traditional, satisfying “comfort” food flavors.
The National Pork Board, the producer-funded organization behind the “Pork. The Other White Meat.” campaign, recently announced the winners of the second annual Consumer’s Choice Pork Awards. Created to recognize the most innovative new products available to American shoppers, the entries were scored by consumers for taste, product appeal, fit to lifestyle trends and likelihood of purchase.
A panel of industry experts narrowed the pool to 10 products, and a jury of American consumers judged the finalists. The winners include:
* Pork Roast Au Jus (Hormel Foods Corp.), a moist and tender meal that “seems like homemade” but can be prepared quickly.
* Heat & Serve Brats (Johnsonville Sausage, LLC), among the favorites because of its “fresh, nicely grilled taste.”
* Quick’n'Easy Gourmet Entrees Pork Roast in Bourbon Sauce (RMH Foods, LLC), chosen for its unique and flavorful bourbon sauce, and praised for being tasty, tender and convenient.
* Jimmy Dean Fresh Taste. Fast! Black Pepper Premium Precooked Bacon Slices (Sara Lee Foods U.S.), a “twist” on traditional bacon, favored for its flavor and easy, no-mess preparation.
* Maple and Brown Sugar Glazed Ham (Tyson Foods, Inc.), the sweet, pre-sliced servings offer quick-and-easy preparation and a taste close to homemade.
For busy cooks, convenience is important in food purchase decisions. No matter how Americans define it, this year’s winners are a step toward more convenient – and delicious - meals. Each winner is already flavored and ready to serve, requiring little effort on the part of the cook.
Taste is what really sets the winning products apart from all others. And, according to Brooke Benschoter, director of consumer communications at the National Pork Board, “The variety of cuts, easy preparation methods and versatile flavor of pork make it a favorite with home cooks. The combination of taste and convenience in the winning products offers busy cooks the best of both worlds.”

Are you looking to take a vacation but are unsure of what places to consider or how to begin? If so, regardless of your age or the size of your family, consider including amusement parks in your next trip.
Amusement parks can be the ideal vacation for a wide variety of people. Whether you are looking for a trip packed with scheduled events and entertainment or if you would prefer a wide open trip with no agenda at all, visiting amusement parks can meet your hopes for a great trip. A great thing about amusement parks is that they are full of options no matter what kind of trip you hope to have. Contrary to popular belief you will find much more than just huge rides and cotton candy at amusement parks, although you will certainly find those things too.
One of the best things about amusement parks is the wide range of people that they attract and entertain. Families with young children, families with older teens, young couples without children or older adults can all enjoy amusement parks equally. Not many other vacation options can keep people of all ages and interests occupied and happy for hours on end. Your children may love visiting the petting zoo or getting their face painted. Amusement parks offer these things while also having tons of fun adult rides and shows as well. Your whole family can choose an activity they would like to do and then you can fill entire days enjoying the fun of being together doing things you each love.
There are amusement parks in many states around the country. Do a little research to find amusement parks near you or in areas that you would like to consider visiting. Some amusement parks will have hotels onsite or very nearby that can sometimes be purchased as part of a package with tickets to the amusement park. Make sure that the amusement parks offer everything that you and your family will want to enjoy. Usually, the larger the amusement park, the more opportunities and activities will be offered. Often you can purchase family packages that offer tickets to amusement parks for a specific number of days at discounted rates. You will have to do a little planning ahead to know how many days of vacation you want to spend.
So get excited about your next vacation! Make plans to visit amusement parks and experience days of nothing but fun for the whole family.
